things to do before you die

Death is the saddest word to hear, and the things to do before you die is to prepare yourself, but nobody is ready to face it, as a matter of fact, most of us are afraid to hear it, but no matter what we do, we all are going there irrespective of what status you have in life whether rich or poor, no one can escape from it. As the bible said in:

Deuteronomy 32:39 See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.

Yet, even though we all will die, the reality of death is pointing us to the hope we have in Christ Jesus.

There are really a lot of heartaches and struggle on earth that we have to experience but it’s helping us to be drawn closer to our savior, he is centering us deeper in his truths, and transforms our conversation with others through motivating us to live according to the will of God.

So the best things to do before you die, is what we will be talking about in this article.

So what does the Bible really say about death? Here are 10 ultimate guides as the truth from the Scripture reveals regarding death:

 1. Death is the most scary thing to think.

But what is death?

There are many causes of death, and it is defined in different ways. In a medical sense death is when the heart stops beating and cuts off the blood supply to the brain.

Therefore, since brain is not functioning anymore so the whole body system will stop working and the body can no longer stay alive.

Death is the whole truth for us, once you are born in this earth, you will start to qualify for death.

So we all know that we all will die, therefore, some wise people have come out with a question. “What happens after we die? Is there a life in the hereafter?

Without the bible, there is no other basis for truth about life after death because there was no any humans who came from there and tell us how it is.

Nevertheless, scientists are able to discover some amazing facts that happen inside the brain after we die.

Scientist are believing that this research will be able to answer some mysterious final moments of consciousness.

However, scientists able to discover some amazing things that happen inside the brain after death. Scientists believe this research will be able to answer some mysterious closing moments of consciousness.

But if we go back in time from many hundred of years ago, when someone dies, then people used to call straight away the priests or pastors rather than doctors for help.

When somebody dies there only basis for checking the life is the breath, once not breathing they will declare it us dead and the next step of it is to bury.

Unlike in our times, even if the person is not breathing anymore, they will still look for other ways like the heart beat, and even there is no more heart beat and breath they still do the final resort which is to CPR or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, then if still not being revived that’s the time they have to declare it dead.

So comparing to the old ways that only breath is the one to check if the person is dead or alive, and to the fact that there are many who were revived from CPR, so we can say that during those times, many were buried alive.

2. We are Mourning for the death but we are hoping for the life.

Losing a love one is the greatest pain you can ever imagine in your life. It may feel like a part of ourselves has been taken with them from departing.

We are grieving of the moments we can never bring back and all the memories and dreams we shared and the desires that there is no more chance of realizing.

As long as we know how were they when alive, our sorrow and grief will be eased a bit of hoping that after judgment we will see each other again.

We are promised with eternal life by God through Jesus Christ who died in the cross for our sins. Jesus was the best example that we really are resurrecting on the set time appointed, because we believed that Jesus died and he rose again from the dead, so we have the assurance that death is not the end of everything.

We may say goodbye for now but we are being promised through the scripture that we will see each other again someday in eternity.

God called the death as just sleeping because he will awake us one day when the time will come that all of his obedient children who are sleeping will be awaken and transferred to heaven.

1 Thessalonians 4:14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.

We as his beloved creations are never put into a life that is full of fear, uncertainty, or confusion.

Through Jesus, we are being offered a certain, glorious, and joyful sure destination, a kind of future who are free of pain, no sorrow and sickness, and there will be no more tears, that is when we’re all in heaven.

This is to be availed by all of us who are putting our trust in what God can do to our lives through Jesus Christ.

3. In this world we will have troubles, but God has overcome the world.

John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

When God had first created the world it was free of sin and death, but when the first couple Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s commandment, it was then that sin entered the world.

Genesis 2:15-17 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

Genesis 3:2-6 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

4. “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

So due to their disobedience to God, they both were punished by banishing them out from the garden of Eden.

Genesis 3:16-17 To the woman he said, “I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” 17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.

4. To die spiritually is to be disconnected from God.

Biblical words have so much difference compared to our regular ones, there are words in the bible which you can’t interpret it straight to what it means to be in the common regular English language.

When we talk about death, we automatically think of being physically dead, because to our way of thinking, death means the end of something and the complete stopped of life.

So death can mean separation of man from God or separation of spirit from the body because it is going back to God already who gave it to us.

The normal common death, our physical bodies will eventually cease to function and will begin to decay.

But our spirits or souls are eternal, so once we die, the breath of life which is the spirit that gives life to our bodies, they will go back to God who gave it to us, while our physical bodies will remain in the grave and will start to decompose.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

It will be during the judgment’s day only that God will give us back the breath of life so that we can be formed to what we originally be when we died, meaning we will have the same bodies as physical bodies like what we have now that can be touched or felt, so that we will know that he is God when we face judgment.

Ezekiel 37:4-6 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 5 This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath[a] enter you, and you will come to life. 6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”

But after the judgment, once you can be for heaven you will be changed and will become like angel so that you can enter to the kingdom of God because our physical bodies are not allowed to enter in there.

But if you are judged to go to hell, there will be no changes of your bodies because in hell we need to have physical bodies so that we can feel what is hell, and in there we will not die anymore.

5. When we die we are just taking a rest temporarily.

To die is just a temporary rest that’s the reason why Jesus Christ termed it as just a “sleep.”

Lazarus was already 4 days in the tomb and dead, but still Jesus called him sleeping and he would awake him, meaning he will make Lazarus to rise to life

John 11:11 After he had said this, he went on to tell them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.”

John 11:43-44 When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” 44 The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face.

There are many verses in the bible that Jesus called dead as sleeping, so we have encountered now three kinds of meaning for the word death or dead in the bible.

Dead: first meaning is: In a medical sense death is when the heart stops beating and cuts off the blood supply to the brain. Therefore, since brain is not functioning anymore so the whole body system will stop working and the body can no longer stay alive.

Dead: second meaning is: To be separated from God just like what happened to Adam and Eve when they disobeyed the commandment of God which is also called as the spiritual death.

Dead: third meaning is: Sleep-because we all will be awaken during the final judgment if we can’t be included in the first resurrection, because there will be two resurrections that will occur, we really will resurrect because Jesus Christ is the way the truth and the life,

John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

So since Jesus is life, if he doesn’t like you to die yet, you will never die no matter what kind of sickness you have, no matter what kind of accidents you will be experiencing, if God doesn’t allow you to die yet,

you will not die because as God said even when you’re dead already, for him you’re only sleeping and it’s easy for him to awake you.

Jesus Christ ascended back to heaven last 2000 years ago and before he left he was leaving a message to us through his disciples:

John 14:15-17 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

6. There are two places as destinations for us all.

After the judgment’s day, we will have two destinations to go. Those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned.

John 5:28-29 28 “Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29 and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned.

In other words there will be three groups of people who will be present during the judgment.

First group: They are the people who died in Christ and they reigned with Christ for the thousand years and these group were already been judged during the first resurrection.

Second and the Third group: these are the groups whom are called the sheep and the goats.

He gathered them all in front of him and the sheep are on the right side while the goats on the left.

Matthew 25:32-33 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

The groups of goats are all going to hell, while the group of sheep, to heaven because when they were still alive, they did something that made God happy, like giving foods, drinks dresses, etc., to his beloved brethren.

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

7. Is death a punishment?

The death which means separation from God is a punishment, because once you are dead spiritually, you will lose most of your privilege as a child of God, and there is a possibility that you can’t come back anymore because the devil will always be there to hinder you from going back to God.

God has all his reasons why we need to die sometimes very early in our lives. Always remember that God is powerful, he knows what is going to happen ahead of us. Therefore, he sometimes let the good people die not in time because he wants them to be saved from the coming bad things that will come to his people.

Isaiah 57:1 The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil.

So if we only understand the ways of God, we can freely accept whatever will happen. God knows what is best for us, sometimes we thought we are forsaken because we don’t understand what is happening and we don’t know what is ahead of us.

We don’t even know that many times in our lives, if without the guidance and protection of God, our lives were in danger but because God is not forsaking us so until now we are here still breathing because of the will of God.

We have to thank God for all the time whether we are happy or not we have to give thanks to God whom we owed our lives.

So let’s always rejoice and pray continually and we have to give thanks in all circumstances: for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

8. Indeed, there is no one on earth who is righteous, no one who does what is right and never sins.

James 1:15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

In this verse of the bible, it is said that when the sin is full-grown, it will give a birth to death.

Death as we have learnt in this article that there are many meanings of it, so when sin is full-grown, it will cause us to die, not to die physically but to die spiritually or to be separated from God.

The bible is clearly telling us that there is no one who does what is right and never sins, it is declared by God in this way because we all are liable to err.

But God is considerate and merciful because he sent his only-begotten son to redeem our sins so that whoever that believes in him shall not perish but will have an everlasting life.

John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

9. Death Is Not the End.

Many people have thought that once we die, we simply cease to live, they are concluding that human consciousness arises gradually as the brain is developing and will slowly weaken or will simply stop.

The bible has different explanation about it, as the scripture says that while our present physical bodies will decompose, but our spirit will never die so after we die, the spirit which is the breath of life will go back to God who gave it, and during the judgment’s day he breath it back to us in order for us to be alive again and to know that he is God.

Ezekiel 37:4- 6 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 5 This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath[a] enter you, and you will come to life. 6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”

So our death will not be the final existence but it is only a temporary rest, because God will awake us to the appointed time set by him.

So while we are alive it’s wise to know and prepare ourselves about what will be and where we will be going once we are resurrected during the final judgment.

Although the bible is speaking of two resurrections, first is for those who died in Christ, and second for all the people from the time of Adam up to then.

The first scenario of first resurrection is this:

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

The second scenario which is the second and the last resurrection or the final judgment.

John 5:28-29 “Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29 and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned.

10. Heaven is the only best place that we should dream to go to.

There is nothing that can compare to the experience that we will be availing and enjoying once we deserve the reward of doing the things that is according to God’s will.

If we only believe what is in the bible, all of us will choose the heaven because this is the most beautiful place to be.

Revelation 21:4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

So if there will be no more crying, mourning, or pain in there, we can imagine how beautiful it is, because it is only those things that making us not happy completely for while there is pain there will be no perfect joy unlike what is promised by God in heaven.

There are only two destinations for us, if we are good we will go to heaven but if we die being bad then the possible place for us is hell.

Everything that will happen in the future regarding heaven and hell, are all recorded in the bible, and the battle between devil and God is already written in it and it’s been read by a lot of people including devil himself has known it.

It is like a movie that you have already been seen, you know already what is the ending, so if we are wise enough, we have to choose to be of God since he is the winner and will never be a loser.

  1. I love your website, I see that there is a lot of things about God. As a Christian, it is satisfying to come across people with the same beliefs as you. When I was younger, I use to fear death, but the older I got the more I stopped fearing it. You are basically going back home when you die.
