Why I Am Poor?

Who made the rich and the poor?

Proverbs 22:2 The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker of them all.

The intention of God for making rich and the poor is so that they will be together, as it is said in the verse above that the rich and poor are meeting together, and it’s God who created them all.

Some are asking, why are they not equal to each other that there are rich and poor, why not making all of them just rich?

The answer of the question, Why I am poor? is that, it’s not good for them to be the same, why?

God who created them all has a purpose of not making them all the same as rich or poor.

The reason why people are not of the same state as some are rich and some are poor, because there are things that rich don’t like to do and there are things that poor should do.

If we are all rich like millionaires, who will be our farmers, our janitors, our helpers, our plumbers, carpenters, etc.?

If we are all millionaires, who will work for us?

Who then can be our pilots in an airplane?

Who will be the captain of the ship?

Who will drive the bus for you?

Where can you hire waiters, supervisors, head waiters, even managers, etc., in a cruise lines?

Of course if we are all millionaires, we would like to be passengers or guests only, and who will serve us?

That’s the reason why there are rich and there are poor, and we don’t need to feel upset if we happen to be in the fate of a poor, as a matter of fact, there is on the other hand an advantage of being poor, because you can live more peacefully than of rich people.

There are many things we don’t know in the life of rich people, the big pressures they are carrying in their shoulders, they can’t walk around as normal as we are because they are hot in the eyes of bad people, for they know there is a big treasure or amount of money they can get from them as being very rich.

While if you are only poor, dwelling in an ordinary house, you don’t need to worry about any bad people that will desire to come to your house for they know they can get nothing, so the sleep of the poor is as restful as baby.

The second advantage of being poor is that you are closer to God, because almost every time of your life you are calling God for protection from any harm and sickness for you don’t have sufficient money if in case you need to go to doctors.

Your first approach for all your problems is God not anybody else, so naturally you are in close relationship with God if you are poor.

Why I can say that most rich are far away from God, anyway, not all of them but almost the majority.

Rich people’s first approach when they encounter any problems specially sickness is to call the doctor, they put all their trust in the doctor,

and they will only need God once the doctor will say that he can do nothing with their sickness and that’s the time the rich will start calling God as his last resort unlike to the poor that God is their first.

So the comparison between rich and poor is quite opposite, the rich can’t sleep restfully, while the poor can have a very restful one.

Ecclesiastes 5:12 The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, Whether he eats little or much; But the abundance of the rich will not permit him to sleep.

It is plainly said on the verse that the abundance of the rich will not permit him to sleep, so that is in exchange of being rich, they always fear that someone will harm them if given the chance.

If we are poor we don’t need to complain to God why we belong on this kind of situation, instead we have to thank God,

that we are poor for we might have not known God if we are rich just like what happened to a lot of rich people in our times that they have almost made their wealth as their God.

For this reason, that’s why it’s said in the bible that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for the rich man to enter the kingdom of God.

Mark 10:25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

This is the word of God and I believe it’s true, because he knows how the rich are thinking and how the poor do.

Although not all poor, and not all rich but the majority who can enter into the kingdom of God are the poor since that is what God had said in the verse above.

Thereby, God has loved the poor more than the rich, for most poor people are relying only in what God can do in their lives.

Luke 6:20-21 Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said: “Blessed are you poor,

For yours is the kingdom of God.

21 Blessed are you who hunger now, For you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now,

For you shall laugh.

Making the verses above as the basis for going to heaven, there are more poor people than can enter the kingdom of God compared to rich.

But what God had said about the rich people, let’s continue to the following verses, of the same chapter as the continuation of the verse pertaining to the rich.

Luke 6:24-25 “But woe to you who are rich, For you have received your consolation.

25 Woe to you who are full, For you shall hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, For you shall mourn and weep.

God said, Woe to you who are rich, meaning those rich who don’t believe in God, you have already received your consolation, woe to you who are full, for you shall hunger.

Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep, where? In the lake of fire as a result of not believing in God, for relying only on wealth which is temporal.

It’s very common for rich people that they’re thinking that they are very high already, they should not hear any little bad words against them or else the poor will be in trouble.

Some rich have diverted their faith instead to God but of the wealth and riches. Therefore, God said in this way for the rich.

Mark 10:24-25 And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, “Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God!

25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

So it’s really so difficult for the rich to enter the kingdom of God, if your hope is only with your wealth.

That’s why there is something nice set aside for the poor, so we don’t need to worry about it and we don’t need to question God why we are poor and why they are rich.

however, we have to thank God for who we are today for if not we might have been together with those who can hardly enter into the kingdom of God.

I myself is poor too, yet I am satisfied with what I have and even thankful for being poor as long as I am rich in the words of God which will make me easier that rich to enter the kingdom of God.

Once again the bible is not condemning the rich, but it’s only implying the possibility of entering the kingdom of God due to most of them have already forgotten him, yet some of them have not believed in the existence of God.

If we ask God if who can be saved, he said in,

1 Timothy 2:3-4 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,

4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

So God’s desire is for all men to be saved meaning irrespective of who you are, he wants us all to be saved.

Actually, rich people will not become rich without being blessed by God, so it’s still God who made them rich, as it is said on this verse below,

Deuteronomy 8:18 “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

By reading the verse above we have the biblical support that it is God who gave the rich people the power to become rich.

Therefore, being rich is not a condemnation to go to hell, as long as you know how to handle your wealth.

No matter how rich you are, even if you think that everything you need in life can be answered by your money, you should still have to be humble of yourself and acknowledge that you can’t have them all without God who gave it to you.

Then put all your trust in the living God, and not in your wealth which you can’t carry with you when the time will come when God wants you to rest.

The last message of God for the rich as the conclusion of this article, can be read in the book of,

1 Timothy 6:17-19 Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.

18 Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share,

19 storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

God’s message for the poor can be read in the book of Psalms written by King David about his experience from childhood to old age that he had never seen the righteous people being forsaken by God and none of them were beggars.

Psalms 37:25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.

Psalms 145:16 You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing.
